AfTLD Initial Registry Operations Course (IROC) Begins in Nairobi

AfTLD Initial Registry Operation Course (IROC) workshop in
Nairobi, Kenya today began in earnest. Attending this workshop are
ccTLD managers and staff from African ccTLDs including Botwana, Ghana,
Zambia, Tanzania and The Gambia. Others are Sudan, Nigeria and Kenya,
the local host.
a brief introductory remark, the Kenic Manager, Joe Kiragu formally
welcomed all participants to Kenya and wished them a wonderful stay in
Kenya. He said Kenic was ready to support particpants to make their
stay and the workshop a great success.
General Manager of AfTLD in his introductory remarks thanks Kenic lead
by its manager for the enormous work done to make the meeting a
reality. He challenged all participants to acquired knowledge that will
be transferred during the workshop to go back and improve the
performance of the respective registries. He also informed the
participants that the workshop was the first of a series of capacity
building workshops and said an advanced registry operation course
(AROC) will take place some time in October 2010.
lead instructor, Chris Evans gave an overview of the course and how the
program will be run. Other instructors.for the workshop are Alain Aina
of Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) and Michuki Mwang (ISOC)
IROC workshop in Nairobi was made possible by the support and
sponsorship of ICANN, ISOC, NSRC, AfriNIC Limited the African Regional
Internet Registration (RIR) and CORE TLD registry. The workshop
is being held at the Impala Room, Kenyatta International Conferencce
Center (KICC), venue for the ICANN Nairobi Public Meeting courtesy
